POLITICAL CAREER
Elected to the Senate in 2002, Cassis served on the Novi City Council from 1985 to 1993 and 1995 to 1996. She was a secretary for the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee. She was elected to the House in a special election in 1996.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Cassis was a teacher with Cleveland Public Schools from 1966 to 1968 and school psychologist for Novi Community Schools from 1980 to 1996.

EDUCATION
Cassis received her B.A. from Ohio University, her M.S. from University of Michigan, and her Ed.S. from University of Michigan.

PERSONAL
Born January 26, 1944, Cassis is married to Victor Cassis and has two children and five stepchildren. She is a member of the Orthodox church.

CIVIC ACTIVITIES
Cassis is a member of the Novi Partnership in Education, the Novi Youth Forum, the Novi Schools' Long Range Planning Team, the Michigan Information Advisory Board, the Republican Alliance to Identify Solutions in Education Task Force, and the Senior Citizens Task Force.
