POLITICAL CAREER
Elected to the Senate in 1999, Emerson served in House from 1980 to 1998. He has been the Democratic Leader in the Senate from 2001 to present.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Emerson has been an International Union Field Representative, a union organizer for St. Joseph Hospital. He has also worked at the Chevrolet Engine Plant for General Motors.

EDUCATION
Emerson has attended several colleges.

PERSONAL
Born March 23, 1948, Emerson is married to Judy Emerson and he has four children.

CIVIC ACTIVITIES
Emerson is founder and chair of the Greater Flint Health Coaltion. He has worked for the Genesse County Free Medical Clinic and is on the Advisory Committee for New Paths, Inc. Emerson is co-founder of Crim Road Race, Inc. and co-chair of the School Aid Subcommittee.
